Research and development of new eco-friendly antimicrobial  systems present an enormous  potential to increase the shelf-life of food and enhance the safety in use of the medical devices. It is known that the most relevant sectors regarding the seriousness of microbial contamination are hospitals, medical equipments and food. The main objective of antimicrobial materials  is to control undesirable microorganisms by means of the incorporation of antimicrobial substances into or coated onto the packaging materials. The present project tries to find solutions for obtaining new innovative eco-friendly bio-nanomaterials with antimicrobial activity in order to improve de knowledge and to develop solutions for solving the problems appeared in food industry and/or medical sector. The novelty of the current project is due to the use of eco-friendly polymeric matrix and antimicrobial agents (like plant extract and apiculture products). Research and development of new eco-friendly antimicrobial bio-nanomaterials have shown huge potential to extend the food life, enhance consumer safety and reducing the contamination of surgical instruments before use. From social point of view the project will improve the managerial competences of the project leader and will permit the organisation of a specialised multidisciplinary team.
